Jonesboro Market Gets FOX Affiliate

1 min read

The city of Jonesboro is getting its own Fox affiliate — a plan years in the making, according to the partners behind the deal.

KJNB-TV, Channel 39, launched earlier this month with plans to add a second transmitter to also air on Channel 42, COO Bill Christian said in an email interview last week. The Memphis Fox affiliate, WHBQ-TV, Channel 13, previously carried programming over the air in the Jonesboro market.

“We have already had a resounding amount of positive response to the station,” Christian said. “We think people deserve and want more choices in local TV, and getting a Fox station from a town out of the market such as Memphis or Little Rock is just not going to focus much on Jonesboro and Walnut Ridge and Paragould, etc.”

The owners said in a news release that they were in the process of securing deals with cable and satellite providers to accommodate the new affiliate, which can already be seen on several providers, including Suddenlink and Dish Network.

The addition of the city’s own Fox affiliate is the latest in a round of programming news this year.

You might recall that KAIT-TV, Channel 8, the region’s ABC affiliate, began broadcasting NBC programming on Jan. 26.

KAIT, which is owned by Raycom Media, is airing the NBC programming on Channel 8.2 and through cable and satellite providers.
