2 min read

Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday named John Martin his new Senior Health Policy Advisor.

Martin, currently the deputy legislative director for U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., will begin his new duties on Sept. 8.

“I’m excited to have John Martin join our team as our new Senior Health Policy Advisor,” Hutchinson said in a statement. “His expertise on health care is well known and his breadth of knowledge and experience on the issue will be of great value to my administration as we work to reform Medicaid and improve access to quality care for Arkansans.”

On Cotton’s staff, Martin has served as primary advisor on domestic policy including health care, agriculture and other issues concerning Arkansas for the last two and a half years. He previously served on Cotton’s U.S. House of Representatives staff as well as on the staff of former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, managing the statewide grassroots operation for his 2012 U.S. Senate campaign in Wisconsin.

In addition, Martin previously worked as a consultant for Deloitte, working with large energy and wholesale-distribution clients.

“I’m honored to join the office of Gov. Hutchinson, who already has accomplished so much for the people of Arkansas,” Martin said. “As a health-care policy advisor, I’m especially excited about the governor’s vision for an innovative, cost-efficient healthcare system that works for Arkansas. I look forward to being a part of making that vision a reality.”

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management from Texas A&M University.
