Hutchinson Says Medicaid Cancellations to Resume

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says the state will resume its push to terminate Medicaid coverage for thousands of people, despite complaints that many being kicked off the program still qualify.

The Republican governor on Tuesday said the state has eliminated the backlog of responses from Medicaid recipients trying to verify their eligibility. Hutchinson ordered a two-week suspension of the termination notices so the Department of Human services could process the influx of responses they’ve received.

Hutchinson said 300 DHS staffers have worked more than 2,200 hours of overtime since last week to work on the responses.

The state has already ended coverage for more than 35,000 people, most of whom were on Arkansas’ compromise Medicaid expansion. Another 13,000 have been sent notices that their coverage will end later this month.
