Ramsay Ball of Bentonville, Don Greenland of Conway and Andy Peeler of Jonesboro have been elected to the board of directors of the Arkansas Community Foundation of Little Rock. Ball is an executive broker with Colliers International Arkansas. Greenland is chief operating officer of Nabholz Construction Corp. Peeler is a financial consultant for Stephens Inc.
Kaki Giauque, a partner at Ernst & Young LLP, has been elected to chair the board of the United Way of Northwest Arkansas for the 2015-16 fiscal year. Other newly elected officers are Jeremy Woody, SVP of the northwest region for Simmons Bank, vice chairman; S. Richard Levin, shareholder at Hall Estill Attorneys at Law, secretary; and Kathy Deck, director of the Center for Business & Economic Research at the University of Arkansas Walton College of Business, treasurer. New board members are Ben Blakeman of Blakeman’s Fine Jewelry; Larry Manry, regional president of Bank of America; Ken Robertson, director of global audit services for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.; Jim Fisher, an Arvest Bank retiree and community volunteer; and Diana Johnson, executive director of high school relations for Northwest Arkansas Community College.
Mandi Chappell began work last month at director of philanthropy for the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas in Little Rock. A graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Chapell has an MBA from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in Seattle. She previously served as a nonprofit consultant for the Wallingford Childcare Center & Feet First in Seattle and as the national recruitment manager for the Taproot Foundation of San Francisco.
Phyllis Barrier, Ed Bennett, Jonathan Blitz, Dr. Thomas Cummins, Caroline Ford and Belinda Shults have joined the board of directors of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in Little Rock. Barrier is a published author who previously worked for the American Diabetes Association. Bennett is a senior vice president at Regions Insurance. Blitz is director of business sales for the south-central region of Verizon Wireless. Cummins is chief medical officer for CHI St. Vincent Health System. Ford is a marketing consultant. Shults formerly served on the board of directors of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre and as president of the Arkansas Arts Center board.

Bryan Stagg of Sissy’s Log Cabin in Pine Bluff was honored as best new designer at the Arkansas Jewelers Association’s recent annual meeting. He also won the Craftsmanship Award and first place in high end design. Christo Kier of Sissy’s Log Cabin in Little Rock won first place in bridal design, men’s jewelry and modestly priced jewelry. He also won second place in mid-range design. George Gotcher of Sissy’s Log Cabin in Jonesboro won second place in the modestly priced design category.
Financial Services
J.D. Chambliss, Jordan Hurst, Jordan Patterson, Raychel Pendergist and Chris Rittelmeyer have been promoted to commissioned senior examiner by the Arkansas State Bank Department. All five are commercial examiners. Chambliss, Hurst and Rittelmeyer are assigned to the department’s northwest Arkansas office, and Patterson and Pendergist are assigned to examination groups based in Little Rock. Chambliss, Hurst and Patterson have been at the Bank Department since August 2010, while Pendergist and Rittelmeyer joined the department in March 2011.
Education
James Carr, senior vice president of Harding University at Searcy, has been appointed to a six-year term on the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board by Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
Andrea Angel, a 10-year employee of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will assume the position of senior director of development on Sept. 16. A 2003 graduate of UALR, Angel was most recently director of development for the College of Business, where she was the university’s top fundraiser. She previously worked in the athletics department, ultimately as director of athletics development.
Health Care
Dr. David B. Bumpass, an orthopedic spine surgeon, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock as an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics. Bumpass earned his medical degree in 2008 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 2013 at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2014, Bumpass completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric spine surgery, also at Washington University, where he remained for another year to gain experience in complex spinal deformity surgery.
Dr. Matthew Law has joined the hospitalist group at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. Law recently completed his internal medicine residency at Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He earned his medical degree at UAMS in Little Rock, a master’s degree in cell and molecular biology at Tulane and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Rhodes College in Memphis.
Dr. Fayz Hudefi has joined the geriatric-psychiatric unit at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith. Hudefi has been treating patients in the Fort Smith area since 2006, serving as medical director at both Vista Health and Bost Behavioral Health, as well as an attending psychiatrist at Western Arkansas Counseling & Guidance Center.
