Dominic Flis of Little Rock, operator of 20 Burger King restaurants in Arkansas, has set his sights on pizza, specifically Blaze Pizza.
He and David Ostrowe of Oklahoma City, who operates 14 Burger Kings in that state, have formed Blazing Partners and have, so Flis informs us, the exclusive development rights with Blaze Pizza for all of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
The partners plan to build eight units by the end of 2017 and now have three under construction: Oklahoma City, Conway (Conway Commons) and Little Rock (Pleasant Ridge). A fourth is under lease in Tulsa as Flis and Ostrowe wait for the development to be constructed.
A typical Blaze Pizza is 2,500 SF and will employ about 25 hourly employees with a general manager and three shift supervisors. The reported average unit volume for Blaze Pizza, based in Pasadena, California, is $1.3 million annually.
“While it is hard to beat a Whopper, as it is the best burger in the quick-service hamburger arena, a Blaze Pizza is the leader in fast-casual custom-made individual pizza,” Flis says.
