When many in the insurance world winced at the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Shon Woodiel took the long view to the massive health care reform legislation.

“I think in time we may all look back in a number of years and realize that the Affordable Care Act may very well be the single greatest step forward that we have taken as a country since the implementation of the Social Security system back in the late 1930s,” Woodiel said.

Woodiel’s sentiment comes from the work he does every day for his clients. As a broker for the Robbi Davis Agency, Inc. in Little Rock, he sees firsthand the positive impact of the ACA.

“I feel as a health care professional that I am able to bring a service and value to peoples’ lives in a way that is both rewarding to the client and our agency,” he said. “It is the ability to walk out of our office each afternoon late to my car to go home knowing that I made a positive difference in someone’s life that day that may affect them for many years.”

A native of DeWitt, Woodiel is a 1981 graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Throughout his career, Woodiel has sought out creative solutions to meet often-complicated client needs.

“I have always had a keen interest in ‘niche markets,’” he said. “We at the Robbi Davis Agency, Inc. have such a special opportunity to provide a service that is so unique and valuable to a large and diverse number of Arkansans.”

Woodiel said these exceptions are fewer and farther between thanks to the options the ACA provides for people who would have otherwise slipped through the cracks.

He said these days it’s less a matter of having options available as it is firms’ willingness to put in the time to service a customer who requires more attention.

“Service is a term that is used far too loosely in today’s world,” he said. “It is advertised millions of times a day throughout the world by every media source in existence. Service is an ‘action’ and it does require commitment without prejudice every day.

“The ability to utilize the Affordable Care Act and help so many people obtain their health insurance, many for the first time in their lives, is very humbling. The ability to literally make a significant positive difference in someone’s life physically, financially and often times emotionally, is extremely rewarding to me personally.”
