Arkansas Home Sales Up 14 Percent in May

Arkansas home sales rose 14 percent in May, according to the latest report by the Arkansas Realtors Association.

The average price of those homes sold increased by less than 4 percent in the same month. The average price of the homes sold surveyed by the association increased from $166,201 in May 2015 to $171,905 in May 2016.

Statewide valuations in May increased by more than 18 percent from last year, the report said.

Benton County topped the charts in nearly every category of the report, including a 12.4 percent increase in average prices for May 2016 compared to May 2015.

There were 582 homes sold in Benton County and 600 sold in Pulaski County in May, both showing a more than 15 percent increase compared to May 2015.

Year to date, there has been a nearly 11 percent increase in homes sold across the state, with 12,952 so far in 2016.

Year to date, average prices have increased by about 3.5 percent statewide, with the average for 2016 at $164,428.

Sebastian County showed a dramatic increase in number of homes sold with a more than 20 percent increase compared to 2015, year to date. So far in 2016 there have been 676 homes sold in the county.
