Mark Power Takes Over for Chris Wyrick as UA Advancement Chief

2 min read

The University of Arkansas announced Monday that Chris Wyrick, vice chancellor for University Advancement, had stepped down and will be replaced by Mark Power, effective immediately.

Wyrick had been the university’s chief fundraiser since April 1, 2013. Power has been associate vice chancellor for development. He takes over on an interim basis, according to the university.

The move comes ahead of the university’s $1 billion fundraising campaign, called Campaign Arkansas.

“The timing of this change was important because we are facing a critical milestone in our capital campaign with the upcoming public launch,” UA Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz said. “I would like to thank Chris for his service to the University of Arkansas and the Division of University Advancement. I have enormous confidence in the entire advancement team to carry forth the vision of creating an energetic and inclusive experience to formally kick-off this significant fundraising endeavor.

“Campaign Arkansas is strong and will continue to thrive on the generosity of Razorbacks around the world and on our dedicated and passionate staff.”

In a statement, Wyrick said it has been “an honor” to serve the UA.

“As the university moves into its launch this fall, I am excited to watch its progress and see the great results that the campaign’s success bring,” he said. “I leave the position with enthusiasm for the future and wish the entire Razorback family the absolute best.”

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Tuesday that Wyrick’s departure follows a reorganization of the advancement division.

Wyrick is a former executive director of the Razorback Foundation, the nonprofit fundraising arm of the university’s athletic program. He replaced former Advancement Vice Chancellor Brad Choate, who was relieved of his duties after a June 2012 internal audit revealed a multimillion-dollar deficit in the division.
