The Jones Center in Springdale announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a $290,000 Walmart Foundation grant to continue its programs and services.
Those include the center’s recreation venues; youth programming like the after-school program, summer day camp and sports leagues; the Fun Day Sunday series, which offers discounts for families to access the pools and ice arena; affordable meeting space for the region’s organizations and nonprofits; and scholarships that allow the center to be an accessible regional amenity.
The grant will also help the center develop a five-year strategic plan for its campus to meet future recreation, health, education and youth programming needs
“We are conducting extensive surveys and interviews to receive important feedback from our members, guests and stakeholders about the Jones Center’s facility and offerings,” Ed Clifford, president and CEO of the Jones Center, said in a news release. “The results of the survey are important as the center serves as a main anchor in the downtown Springdale revitalization effort, and as a trail-head for the Razorback Greenway Trails System.”
Erin Hogue, a senior manager for the foundation, said the organization is proud to support the center because the center provides “a safe, fun and welcoming environment for learning and development.”
Kelly Kemp-McLintock, a certified fundraising executive and chief advancement officer for the center, said, “Walmart’s continued investment over the years has enabled the organization to expand its quality programming for youth and families, and to sustain founder Bernice Jones’ vision of an affordable regional center ‘where all are welcome.'”
