Wendy Nembhard to Chair UAMS Epidemiology Department (Movers & Shakers)

Wendy Nembhard has been named chair of the Department of Epidemiology in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She will continue in her role as interim section chief for the birth defects research section in the Department of Pediatrics. Nembhard is also director of the Arkansas Center for Birth Defects Research & Prevention at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Research Institute and the scientific director of the Arkansas Reproductive Health Monitoring System.

Dr. Erick Messias is rejoining UAMS as associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Medicine and associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Messias served on the UAMS faculty in the past and was most recently vice president and medical director of Beacon Health Options Arkansas.

Kathy White Loyd has been appointed interim dean of the College of Business at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. Loyd will continue in her role as executive director of the A-State Women’s Business Leadership Center.

Mark Allen Poisel has been hired as vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and Julien Mirivel and Daryl Rice have taken on new roles. Poisel, currently vice president for enrollment and student affairs at Augusta University in Georgia, will assume his new position July 31. Mirivel, a professor in the Department of Applied Communications, has been selected as the interim dean of the College of Social Sciences & Communication, where he has been an associate dean since last year. Rice has been named associate vice chancellor of academic affairs after serving in an interim capacity since Feb. 1.
