UCA Names Michael Hargis Interim Provost

The University of Central Arkansas on Monday announced that Michael Hargis, dean of the College of Business, will serve as interim provost, effective Aug. 1.

A national search for the new provost will be conducted as the 2017 fall semester begins.  

Hargis came to UCA in 2006 as an assistant professor of management. He was named interim dean of the College of Business in 2013 and was appointed dean in 2014. He also served as residential college rector and as an associate professor in the Department of Marketing & Management. 

Before UCA, Hargis was an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. 

His research has been published in several journals, and he serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Organizational Behavior and the Journal of Business & Psychology. In addition, Hargis serves on several regional and state advisory boards.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hendrix University. Hargis also holds a master’s of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit.
