Jerad Gardner of UAMS Honored by American Society for Clinical Pathology (Movers & Shakers)

Dr. Jerad Gardner, an associate professor in the departments of pathology and dermatology in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, was recently named to the American Society for Clinical Pathology’s 40 Under 40 list for 2017. The list honors pathologists and laboratory medicine professionals under the age of 40. Nominees are chosen from the roughly 130,000 members of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
 
Gardner, a dermatopathologist and bone/soft tissue sarcoma pathologist, has been at UAMS since 2012. He directs the dermatopathology fellowship program and co-directs the musculoskeletal/skin module, both in the College of Medicine. Gardner has lectured internationally on bone and soft tissue tumors and skin disease. He was an early adopter in using social media in his field and is now the chair of social media subcommittees for two pathology organizations. He has created Facebook discussion groups for pathologists that now have 18,000 and 25,000 followers.

Gardner earned an undergraduate degree in biomedical science from the University of South Alabama before earning his medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He did his residency at Houston Methodist in Houston and completed fellowships at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.


Ai-Chau Nguyen has been hired as a family nurse practitioner at Cornerstone Family Medical Clinic in Fort Smith. She was previously an intensive care nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.


Dr. Urmi Jani and Dr. Mark Myers have been hired by Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

Jani has been selected as the psychology services clinical director of the newly established Bariatric & Metabolic Institute and was previously a licensed clinical psychologist at The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center of New Orleans.

Myers was hired as chief medical doctor at the Arkansas Heart Hospital Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center in Conway. He previously worked as the medical director of the Center for Hyperbaric & Wound Care at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.


Dr. C. Lowry Barnes, chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, was invested recently in the Carl L. Nelson, M.D., Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Barnes received his medical degree from the UAMS College of Medicine in 1986.


Dr. Joel Smith has joined Martin Orthopedics as a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and will primarily work out of the North Little Rock location. Smith earned his medical degree from UAMS and previously practiced with OrthoArkansas in North Little Rock.
