Cows Haven’t Come Home Yet for Hiland’s Carolyn EvansLock Icon

Here’s a milestone few of us will reach: Carolyn Evans recently celebrated her 62nd anniversary at the company now known as Hiland Dairy in Little Rock.

Evans, 77, started at Coleman Dairy in Little Rock in 1955 when she was 15 years old.

Over the following six decades, the company has gone through several name, location and ownership changes.

And her colleagues have been more than a work family.

Evans’ father, sister, late husband, daughter and several other relatives have worked for the dairy.

“I could add up my family together that’s worked there over the years and they would have well over 200 years of working time,” she told Whispers.

In her 62 years of work, she’s done “just about everything in the office that has to be done.”

She tried to retire before but said she “found out real quick that wasn’t for me.” She now works part time and can be spotted punching the time clock at 6 a.m. most mornings for a half day’s work.

“They’ve been a good, gracious company to work for, and I’m just lucky I’ve got to be a part of it,” Evans said.
