Entergy Corp., the parent company of the state’s largest investor-owned electric utility, Entergy Arkansas, has once again been recognized as a powerful force in economic development by Site Selection magazine.
The magazine, a resource for executives who make decisions on where companies expand, has named Entergy as one of the nation’s top utilities in economic development for the 10th consecutive year, noting its role in supporting projects that resulted in nearly $28 billion in annual capital investment and the creation of some 5,800 jobs across its service territory.
Over the last decade, Entergy has played a role in more than $120 billion in capital investments, driving the creation of more than 92,000 jobs, including several projects in Arkansas.
Those efforts helped yield 400 jobs at Intimidator in Batesville and 250 jobs at the Sun Paper mill under construction near Gum Springs.
“This award demonstrates Entergy’s commitment to growing our region’s economy and serving as great allies to our local economies,” Entergy Arkansas CEO Rick Riley said in a news release. “Since the very beginning of this company in Malvern and Arkadelphia, we’ve been a partner in development. We look forward to a continued successful partnership as we support economic growth throughout Arkansas.”
Mike Maulden, director of business and economic development for Entergy Arkansas, said that his team plays an “integral role in efforts for the state of Arkansas,” providing companies with access to information they need in locating, expanding and promoting their organizations. Entergy assists in site selection, project management and large-project contracts, the company said.
Site Selection, headquartered in Atlanta since the magazine’s founding in 1954, based its rankings on companies’ use of innovative programs and incentives for business location, as well as website tools and data on each utility’s job-creation infrastructure and facility investment efforts. The rankings appear in the magazine’s September print edition and on its website, siteselection.com.
