Walmart Partners With Postmates to Delivery Groceries in North Carolina

2 min read

Walmart Inc. of Bentonville has reached a deal with local delivery company Postmates of San Francisco that will help Walmart expand its online grocery delivery service over the coming months.

The publicly traded retailer said that starting Tuesday, Postmates will deliver goods ordered from Walmart to customers in Charlotte, North Carolina. The retailer aims to eventually roll out its grocery delivery service to more than 40 percent of U.S. households.

“With the help of Postmates, we’re making grocery shopping even easier by bringing the everyday low prices of Walmart right to the front door of customers in Charlotte with more areas to be added soon,” Mark Ibbotson, executive vice president of central operations for Walmart U.S., said in a news release.

To use the service, Walmart customers in Charlotte place their orders at Walmart.com/grocery or on the Walmart grocery app, then schedule delivery under the “delivery” tab.

“After orders have been picked by Walmart’s personal shoppers, a member of the Postmates Fleet retrieves the order from a Walmart store and delivers it right to the customer during their specified delivery window,” the retailer said.

Items available for delivery include fresh produce, meat, seafood, bakery items, pantry staples, consumables and seasonal general merchandise. Groceries can be delivered to customers as soon as the same day. The service costs $9.95, and customers must order a minimum of $30 worth of goods.

Walmart also offers a grocery pickup service that allows customers to order groceries online and pick them up in stores without ever getting out of their cars. That service is available in 1,200 stores, with 1,000 more to be added this year.
