AIA Merit Award/People’s Choice 2018: Paschal Heat Air & Geothermal by deMx Architecture

2 min read

PROJECT: Paschal Heat Air & Geothermal
FIRM: deMx architecture
CONTRACTOR: East Harding Construction
LOCATION: Springdale

Designed to accommodate the company’s unprecedented growth, Paschal Heat Air & Geothermal needed both a warehouse that could support its expanding inventory, as well as office space that could integrate seamlessly with its workflow and evolving business model.

The 30,000-SF warehouse is stretched the length of the narrow site and laid out to maximize the efficiency of inbound and outbound trailers. The offices are organized by departments in blocks of space stacked around the perimeter, all overlooking a double height open office that encourages transparency and collaboration among the various departments.

The exterior reinforces the company’s industrial character while moments of color highlight areas of relief in the massing. The primary façade is rotated to face the street, open up the shared office space and maximize the northern expose. Large glass overhead doors allow the open office space to be expanded further as well as to provide views of the pond to the north. A flush cypress box accentuates the pedestrian level and contrasts the dark masses to create an inviting entry near the glass wall of the showroom.

The simple formal moves reflect the company’s focus on efficiency and provide a strong figure for a growing company.
