Baker House Due to Reopen in 2019Lock Icon

Stacy and Nathan Hamilton — a real estate agent and communications director for the city of North Little Rock, respectively — have purchased the 122-year-old Baker House in downtown North Little Rock for $404,000 and plan to reopen for guests in the spring.

The quintessential Victorian structure closed as a bed and breakfast three years ago and is essentially empty after an estate sale cleared out the furnishings last year, Nathan Hamilton said. But the structure — 3,700 SF — is in excellent condition, so the next few months will be spent on deferred maintenance, cosmetic updates and the hunt for furnishings.

“We’re keeping the historic integrity of the house, for sure. That’s very important,” he said. But the heavy draperies are coming down and the rooms will not have a “museum” feel, he said.

There are five guest rooms, each with a private bath, plus a guest house that can sleep four. The Hamiltons plan a cross between Airbnb lodgings and a boutique hotel. Guests will be able to check themselves in with a passcode texted to their phones, but the rooms will be cleaned and refreshed every day.
