First Electric Members Get $9.5M Back

1 min read
Electric cooperative members in central Arkansas got an expected something extra in their stockings this week as First Electric Cooperative of Jacksonville returned more than $9 million to ratepayers.
As a not-for-profit electric coopertive, First Electric returns any excess revenue to members in the form of capital credits. “The amount of money members receive is based on how much electricity they used during the year,” the utility said.
The capital credit checks were mailed out to members this month, and members whose refund was less than $30 got their credit on their December electric bills.
Now serving 94,000 accounts in 18 counties, First Electric has returned more than $105 million to members over its 80-year history, company officials said.
