Arkansas Life Survives as Quarterly, Will Publish Monthly Editions Online

1 min read

Arkansas Life received a death reprieve Friday as leaders at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, publisher of the monthly lifestyle magazine, announced that it will transform the publication into a hybrid print and digital product rather than shutting it down.

More than a thousand new subscribers paying $20 a year responded to a last-ditch push to save the 10-year-old glossy, which will now be published online 12 months a year and printed quarterly. January’s edition is out now, and another monthly addition will appear in February before quarterly distribution begins.

Democrat-Gazette President Lynn Hamilton said the late subscription effort brought in 1,033 new subscriptions, raising total paid circulation to about 4,500. Certain Democrat-Gazette readers get free copies of the magazine with their newspaper, putting total monthly output at about 24,000 copies, Hamilton revealed in an online article in his own newspaper Friday.

The first quarterly edition will appear in April.

“No layoffs,” Hamilton told Arkansas Business when asked about staffing effects. Five or so employees are devoted primarily to the magazine.
