J. Max Van Hoose, vice president of store planning for Harps Food Stores Inc. of Springdale, has been promoted to executive vice president of the grocery chain, according to Kim Eskew, Harps chairman and CEO.
“J. Max has been instrumental for much of our growth since 1997,” Eskew said. “That includes negotiating with store owners for acquisitions, finding investors to purchase our real estate and finding future sites for expansion. He has done a tremendous job in a very competitive industry.”
Van Hoose worked for Hallmark Cards Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri, in various engineering roles before coming to work at Harps in 1997. While at Harps, Van Hoose also was director of construction before becoming VP of store planning. He serves on the board of the Missouri Grocers Association and is a member of the Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineering. Harps is an employee-owned retail grocery chain operating 91 stores in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Van Hoose, a Springdale native, has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas and an MBA from the University of Kansas.
