The U.S. Department of Energy has scheduled a series of public meetings, including six in Arkansas, as part of an independent review of the proposed Plains & Eastern Clean Line, a $2 billion, 720-mile transmission line aiming to deliver more than 4,000 megawatts of wind energy from the Oklahoma panhandle to customers in Tennessee and Arkansas.

Earlier this month, the Tennessee Regulatory Authority unanimously gave Plains & Eastern Clean Line LLC, a subsidiary of Clean Line Energy Partners LLC of Houston, Texas, the authority to operate as a wholesale transmission-only public utility in the state.

Public meetings in Arkansas have been scheduled for:

  • Newport, Feb. 9, ASU-Newport Community Center
  • Searcy, Feb. 10, Carmichael Community Center Auditorium
  • Marked Tree, Feb. 11, ASU-Marked Tree Student Center
  • Russellville, Feb. 17, ATU Lake Point Conference Center
  • Fort Smith, Feb. 18, Fort Smith Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A
  • Morrilton, Feb. 19, UACC-Morrilton, Fine Arts Auditorium

All public meetings will run from 5-8 p.m. and include an open house from 5-5:45; presentation, 5:45-6:15; and public comment, 6:15-8.

The DOE plans to issue an environmental impact statement later this year.
