Ballet Arkansas announced Thursday that Ganelle Blake will lead the state’s only professional ballet company as its new executive director.

"Ganelle brings expertise in fundraising and strategic planning that will serve as the perfect complement to the artistic growth in our dancers and enhanced production quality Ballet Arkansas has seen in recent seasons," said Ahmad Brown, president of ballet's board of directors. "The company, board and staff is enthusiastic about the energy and commitment she brings to this organization."

Blake obtained a bachelor's degree in theater arts from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She studied Suzuki and Viewpoints with the Saratoga International Theatre Institute and was a member of the 2008 Apprentice/Intern Company at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

After earning a master’s degree in secondary education from UALR, Blake began her fundraising career as a full-time AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America at Our House.

She is president-elect for the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has raised more than $1.5 million for Arkansas nonprofits, specializing in branding and strategic planning.

"I couldn’t be more thrilled to have accepted this position at Ballet Arkansas," Blake said. "I look forward to showing our community just how special and necessary these dancers are to the very fabric and personality of our state."

The board is holding a reception for Blake Thursday night in Little Rock.
