Dr. Peter Emanuel, the former director for the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, will be joining CHI St. Vincent of Little Rock on Sept. 1.

A CHI spokesman on Friday afternoon didn’t offer any more details about Emanuel’s position.

Emanuel resigned from UAMS in May, but agreed to stay until the end of July.

Emanuel started at UAMS in 2007 and had been at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as a professor of medicine, genetics and biochemistry. During his tenure at UAMS, Emanuel oversaw the addition of the Cancer Institute’s 12-story research and treatment tower that opened in 2010.

His annual salary was $500,000.

Last month, Dr. Laura Hutchins, a hematologist oncologist at UAMS was appointed interim director for the Cancer Institute.

As of Friday, UAMS was continuing its national search for a new director.
