Cameron Smith & Associates Launches Commercial Construction Division

2 min read

Recruiting firm Cameron Smith & Associates of Rogers announced Thursday that it is expanding into recruiting for the commercial construction industry. Steve Lockwood will lead the firm’s new division.

CSA has been filling leadership positions for consumer products companies in the U.S. and Canada for 24 years, and it’s ranked on the Forbes list of America’s Best Executive Search Firms.

Cameron Smith, the firm’s president, told Arkansas Business that CSA’s decision to expand into this market began with a few calls from construction companies that needed positions filled in the St. Louis area and in Colorado.

“It was just unbelievably ripe for business. I mean, there are lots of commercial construction and home and multi-family construction jobs up there,” he said. “So we started doing our research, and I knew Steve Lockwood, and he had a lot of experience … We spent several months researching this market.”

“My theory in business has always been never stop growing,” Smith added. “So this is as diversification for us and we’re very, very excited about it.”

Smith said 8-10 recruiters will be assigned to the new division and supervised by Lockwood, a certified facilities manager and an International Facility Management Association Fellow. Before joining CSA, Lockwood was a senior manager and project manager for Steelcase Inc., director of facility and project management for Meijer Inc. and headed up the NASA Facilities’ project in Midland, Michigan.

Most recently, as a principal in Lockwood 2 Creations, Lockwood oversaw project and facilities management for vendor offices in northwest Arkansas.

He has a construction management degree from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in facilities/construction management from Michigan State University.

Lockwood also taught facility design and management at Michigan State, Ferris State and North Dakota State University.

This is the second expansion CSA has announced this year. The firm hired two former Walmart Inc. executives and launched an international division in February.
