CARTI announced Monday the location of its previously announced comprehensive CARTI Cancer Center in El Dorado: the former Office Depot at 1601 North West Ave.

It will be the nonprofit’s sixth center. The others are in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway and Russellville. The fifth, in Pine Bluff, is under construction. CARTI has 19 treatment locations overall in Arkansas.

The El Dorado building offers more than 25,000 SF. Its custom remodel is set to begin next month, and the project is expected to be completed by late summer 2021.

CEO Adam Head said CARTI's presence in south Arkansas began more than 21 years ago with a treatment center in El Dorado. He indicated that the center will cater to patients in south Arkansas and north Louisiana.

"Our expansion is driven by our mission to provide trusted cancer care close to home," Head said. "We look forward to bringing the most advanced technologies and expertise to the residents of Union County and the surrounding areas with a beautiful and expansive cancer center."

El Dorado Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer said the facility will revitalize a large structure in the city's downtown.

"Especially in light of the unprecedented times we're living in due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are fortunate for CARTI's strength and determination to open this new treatment center and to provide specialized oncology options for the wonderful people of Union County and surrounding communities," Smith-Creer said.
