Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis has opened the first phase of its new hotel that’s part of a $320 million expansion plan.
Eighty-nine rooms on six floors, including 60 suites, became available on July 1 for the public as well as members of the Lucky North player rewards club, who are eligible for discounts. The remaining 211 rooms of the 300-room, 20-story hotel tower, including 12 penthouse suites on the top floor, are set to open in September.
Southland’s 113,000-SF gaming floor featuring 2,400 slot machines, as many as 50 live table games and a variety of dining options is set to open this spring.
Jeff Strang, senior director of marketing, said in a news release that the business anticipates more “staycation” guests from Memphis and more guests from Little Rock, other parts of Arkansas, Nashville, other parts of Tennessee, northern Alabama and St. Louis. Its advertising campaign will target major markets within 300 miles.
Kevin Kane, president and CEO of Memphis Tourism, said in the release, “People in the Memphis area will use this property for more than just gaming. With a brand new casino, hotel and restaurants, this new facility is an added bonus to our tourism industry. We look at Southland Casino as a part of the Memphis community.”
New dining options The Kitchens buffet, Ignite Steakhouse, The Fry House and The Grind coffee shop are also open at the casino.
