Jami Cook has resigned as secretary of the Arkansas Department of Public Safety and director of the Division on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, effective Aug. 5.
She cited multiple health issues as the cause, in her resignation letter to Gov. Asa Hutchinson. He will announce her successor at a later date.
Cook became the first to hold her position after a 2019 law reorganized and consolidated state agencies.
She was appointed director of the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training in 2015. Previously, Cook served as the Arkansas State Police Program director. In 2009, she was appointed as commissioner to the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
Cook started her law enforcement career as a Newport police officer in 1994.
