Oak Street Health Plans Expansion to Arkansas

CVS Health-owned Oak Street Health of Chicago, a network of value-based primary care centers for Medicare recipients, has announced plans to expand to Arkansas.

In a news release, the company said it will open a center in Little Rock as part of a broader expansion that gives it a presence in 25 states. The plan also calls for Oak Street's first locations in Iowa, Kansas and Virginia, and additional locations in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

No opening date was announced for the Little Rock location.

Oak Street delivers preventive primary care through a model that was created to meet the needs of older adults. The company says the model, which incorporates behavioral health care and social determinants, has helped reduce patient hospital admissions by about 51% compared to Medicare benchmarks, and driven a 42% reduction in 30-day readmission rates and a 51% reduction in emergency department visits.

CVS Health finalized its $10.6 billion acquisition of Oak Street last month.

Oak Street currently operates more than 170 centers across 21 states.
