Rheem in Fort Smith to Move 250 Jobs to Mexico

1 min read

Rheem Manufacturing Co. expects to cut about 250 jobs at its Fort Smith plant over the next three years as it expands its operations in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

In a brief statement, the Atlanta-based company said it expects most of the affected employees to be able to move into other jobs at the Fort Smith facility, which makes residential air conditioners.

“The Fort Smith plant continues to be a key manufacturing facility in the company’s global business plan and additional capital investments in Fort Smith are planned during this transition,” the news release stated.

The 290,400-SF expansion of the Nuevo Laredo plant is expected to be completed next spring. The facility that makes air conditioners and heat pumps will add other residential products, the release stated.
