Windstream Corp. of Little Rock announced major changes to its management team on Monday, filling a chief operating officer position that had remained vacant since August 2007.

The appointments, recently approved by the board of directors, are effective immediately.

Brent Whittington, former chief financial officer of Windstream, will assume the role of COO. Whittington, who fills the post vacated in 2007 by Keith Paglusch, will oversee operations, customer service, information technology, marketing and sales.

Tony Thomas, former controller for Windstream, will now serve as CFO. Thomas will manage the financial, tax, procurement, audit, treasury, risk management and corporate communications teams.

John Eichler, former vice president of internal audit, will now serve as vice president and controller. He will be responsible for the company’s accounting and external reporting departments.

Cindy Nash has been promoted to chief information officer. Nash formerly worked as senior vice president of information technology. The role of CIO is a new position at Windstream.

"These management changes will enhance our efforts to transform this business by sharpening our focus and coordination on sales and service," said Jeff Gardner, president and CEO of Windstream. "The changes provide a more efficient reporting structure and greater flexibility to evaluate the strategic opportunities in front of us to further grow our business."
