Cotham’s Goes Uptown

2 min read

Have you heard that Scott’s hot spot for eating out is coming to Little Rock?

Look for Cotham’s to open near the State Capitol in less than two months and bring with it a key piece of equipment.

Larry Griffin, owner of Cotham’s, says the popular restaurant will set up shop at 1401 W. Third St. about Oct. 1. Cotham’s will occupy the one-time home of T.G.I. Friday’s.

The former brass-and-fern bar location has more recently housed Royal Business Machines. The Arkansas Counties Association is the landlord.

Griffin says he’s adding the branch as a convenience for his Little Rock patrons.

“Nobody gets two-hour lunch hours anymore; it’s just not possible for a Little Rock lunch market to get out here anymore like they used to, during the week,” he says. “If they can’t come to me, I’ll come to them.”

Cotham’s, famous for its huge Hubcap Burger, is known for home cooking and eclectic clientele, a mixture of farmers, business elite and politicos.

Griffin says the addition isn’t designed to make up for sagging business at at the Scott location.

“This don’t mean I’m not packed,” he says over the roar of customers at lunchtime. “But what is does mean is that I’ve got lots of people in Little Rock that just can’t get out here.”

Griffin says he’s bringing his menu, past and present Cotham employees and a grill from the Scott restaurant to the Little Rock location, which will begin serving only lunch Monday through Friday.

“I just got this thing about grills,” he says. “I think after 20 years grills get a certain character, you know. You just take it with you.”
