With ASU Already Weighing Options, Another Osteopathic School Could Be Coming
(Arkansas State)

We’re sure you know about Arkansas State University looking into starting an osteopathic medical school, but did you know there is talk of such a school being placed in Fort Smith — or another part of the state?

We couldn’t nail down the details of the talks, but we did receive this cryptic email from the Arkansas Osteopathic Medical Association when we asked:

“Our state association is aware of all Osteopathic medical school endeavors within the state,” spokesman James Zini wrote. “We wish to handle things in a manner that will be most beneficial to the people of the state of Arkansas to meet their primary care needs and to serve the underserved. At the appropriate time we shall issue our own press release.”

Meanwhile, ASU hopes to make a decision on whether to go forward with the school by the end of the year.

But if an osteopathic medical school ends up in another city besides Jonesboro, ASU won’t be involved in it, said Jeff Hankins, ASU’s spokesman.

“The only possible site we’re looking at would be on the Jonesboro campus,” Hankins said. “Anything else, we wouldn’t be involved with it.”
