1 min read

Arkansas State University in Jonesboro announced Thursday the establishment of a $25,000 Arkansas Family Health Foundation Pre-Med Scholarship for full-time upperclassmen with pre-med majors.

The Arkansas Family Health Foundation is funding the scholarship as part of an effort to encourage physicians to practice medicine in rural Arkansas.

Dr. Steven Collier, CEO of ARcare and Arkansas Family Health Foundation, and Chris Gibson, vice president of ARcare, presented the initial $25,000.

Qualifications for receiving the scholarship, which is awarded annually, include a minimum overall GPA of 3.25. Priority will be given to students demonstrating a financial need who are from counties served by the ARcare family of clinics in Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi.

Scholarship selection will be made by the Biology Scholarship Committee, the pre-professional adviser for pre-med students and representatives of the foundation.
