A-State Promotes Todd Clark to Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

2 min read

Arkansas State University has promoted Todd Clark to chief marketing and communications officer, Chancellor Todd Shields announced Thursday.

Clark had been filling the role on an interim basis since October, and previously was associate chief communications officer. In the new job, Clark will oversee the Office of University Marketing and Communications and continue to serve on the chancellor’s executive cabinet.

An Arkansas State graduate, he has 18 years of experience in higher education.

Shields said Clark has a fresh vision for the new job and a relentless passion for the university.

“His talent, combined with a love for all things Arkansas State University and northeast Arkansas, make him the right person for this moment in our history,” Shields said in a news release.

Clark will oversee a wide range of marketing and communications tasks, the university said, including brand management. Those include, advertising, internal and external communications,
media relations, crisis communication, publications and creative services.

He’ll also lead A-State’s photography, videography, social media and web strategy.

Clark said he was honored to lead efforts to tell the story of A-State, and to strengthen its brand aggressively. “I believe that Arkansas State has the right leadership in place to foster an era of unprecedented innovation and growth in service to our students, our community and the state of Arkansas.”

As chief of A-State’s digital creative media department,  Clark led a group produced multiple award-winning video, photo, web and social media campaigns. Those triumphs led to a role increased involvement in coordinating campus communications.

He joined the university in 2006 as the director of events and affinity partnerships for the A-State Alumni Association. He joined the UMC division two years later when he led the redevelopment of the university’s website.

“My entire career at A-State has been focused on telling the story of life-changing higher education,” Clark said in the release. “I have experienced it personally as a first-generation college student  and continue to see it through the countless students who cross my path and go on to  become leaders in our community, state and region.”

Clark graduated from Blytheville High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in management information systems. And later, he took a master’s degree in business administration, also at A-State.

Clark is active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. In July, he finished a two-year term as chair of CASE District IV. The district serves colleges and independent schools in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.
