It looks like one of the longest-running and largest bankruptcy cases in Arkansas is finally coming to an end.
If you recall, Affiliated Foods Southwest Inc. of Little Rock, once one of the state’s largest private companies, filed for bankruptcy way back in May 2009. When Affiliated filed for bankruptcy, it listed $101.5 million in debts. Creditors, though, said they were owed $152.9 million.
The case has since generated more than 5,100 docket entries in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
And the fallout from the company’s collapse included prison sentences for former CEO John Mills and former CFO Alexander “Lex” Martinez. Both have completed their prison sentences.
Last month, the trustee in the case, Richard Cox of Hot Springs, filed his final account and distribution report, showing that $12.9 million in claims were paid, with $5.5 million of that going for administration expenses. Claims discharged without payment totaled $91.9 million, the filing said.
Before the case is officially closed, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Richard D. Taylor needs to approve Cox’s report.
As of last week, the case was still officially open.
