Michael Lewis Lejong has represented the American Institute of Architects and the architectural profession on many levels throughout his career. From his early involvement in the student chapter to serving in various capacities on local, state, regional and national levels, he has taken a leading role in the guidance and structure of the AIA organization.

In 2003, Lejong served as the AIA Arkansas Fort Smith Section Chair, and then later served on the AIA Arkansas Board of Directors for eight years. During his time on the board, he served in various capacities including; convention chair, design awards chair, speaker’s chair, Grassroots representative as well as serving on the financial planning, membership, legacy foundation, legislative and political action committees. In 2012, Lejong took on the role of AIA Arkansas Chapter President.

In addition, Lejong has been involved for several years as AIA Arkansas’ representative on the AIA State Government Network (SGN) national committee. In 2015, he was appointed by Gulf States Region Director Rob Walker as the Gulf States Regional Representative on the AIA Small Firm Exchange (formerly the AIA Small Firm Roundtable). The AIA Small Firm Exchange advocates for small firms within AIA and other agencies, promotes leadership in small firm professional development and practice, and facilitates support of local small firm networks. Within the AIA Small Firm Exchange, Lejong serves on the Leadership Work Group committee and is a co-editor for AIA Kinetic, an interactive mobile application for young architects through mid-career professionals.

Lejong received his bachelors of architecture degree in 1996 from the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design in Fayetteville. He is a licensed architect and a LEED accredited professional. Lejong became a principal at MAHG Architecture in 2001. The design firm has been practicing in Fort Smith for over 80 years and currently focuses on all types of commercial and sustainable projects.

In his community, Lejong acts as the chair of the City of Greenwood Economic Development Commission. He is a board member on the Greenwood Parks Department Trails Committee, Greenwood Schools Education Foundation, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith CAD Advisory Board, and the Sebastian County Historical Society. Lejong is a former vice-president of the Sebastian County Girls Softball League and also a former head coach for Greenwood High School Softball. Michael and his wife, Katie, reside in Greenwood and have two daughters, Abbey and Emerson.
