2 min read

ArcBest Corp. of Fort Smith said Tuesday that its president and CEO, Judy McReynolds, has been elected chairman of the publicly traded company’s board of directors.

McReynolds, 53, will replace the retiring Robert Young III, 75, as chair following ArcBest’s April 26 annual meeting, the company said Tuesday. McReynolds will continue her duties as president and CEO.

ArcBest also announced the election of board member Steven Spinner as lead independent director, a new position, for a one-year term. Spinner has been a board member since 2011 and is president and CEO of United Foods Inc. of Dayville, Connecticut.

Spinner’s new duties will include, with McReynolds, planning, reviewing and approving board meeting agendas; advising McReynolds of the board’s “information needs”; acting as a liaison between McReynolds and the independent directors; and calling meetings of the independent directors.

Young served as a director for the company since 1970 and board chair since 2004. He was CEO from 1988 to 2006. Young began work at the company in 1964.

McReynolds said in a news release that Young’s stewardship of ArcBest over the years has been invaluable, and his devotion and positive influrence “evident and impactful.”

“His deep industry knowledge and commitment to doing the right thing have led our company to expand far beyond our regional roots to become a premier provider of transportation services across the country,” she said. “His guidance and friendship have meant a great deal to me personally and so many others here, and we will miss him greatly.”

ArcBest is scheduled to report quarterly earnings on Wednesday.
