A rendering of the future Arkansas Children's Northwest hospital in Springdale
Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale is getting two more grants to support construction efforts.
Steve and Sharon Stafford of Green Forest and family committed $100,000, and University of Arkansas at Fayetteville students involved in the campus organization, Hogs for Hope, have pledged $250,000. The organization will raise the money over the next five years through Dance Marathon, an annual 12-hour event.
Dance Marathon is a national Children’s Miracle Network Hospital movement. Students at universities across the U.S. help local children by raising thousands of dollars for their local hospitals. Dance Marathon has raised $31.4 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide in 2016. When it opens in January, Arkansas Children’s Northwest will be the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for Northwest Arkansas.
This year, the Hogs for Hope Dance Marathon will be held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Fayetteville Town Center.
The Staffords chose to donate on behalf of the care their grandson, Stafford Waller, received in the NICU at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock after being delivered at 32 weeks. Today, the 10-year-old is thriving and will continue the care he needs close to home at Arkansas Children’s Northwest, according to a news release by Arkansas Children’s.
To honor the Stafford family’s gift and celebrate their investment, a play area on the third level of Arkansas Children’s Northwest will carry the Stafford family and Anstaff Bank name. Last month, Arkansas Children’s announced a $250,000 gift from Anstaff Bank, where Steve Stafford is chairman and CEO.
Arkansas Children’s Northwest will feature 24 inpatient beds, a 24-hours emergency department, an outpatient clinic, a pediatric surgery unit, outdoor gardens and nature trails, as well as a helipad and refueling station for Angel One.
