Arkansas Federal Credit Union Engages, Inspires Employees

At Arkansas Federal Credit Union, the sole focus is employees, members and the community. AFCU lives its happy personality by providing employees with fun activities throughout the year such as ice cream socials, tickets to sporting events and festivals, fitness contests, food deliveries and special treats such as gift cards and prizes.

Additionally, AFCU employees are living the caring personality and service to its communities by donating to corporate-sponsored charities through automatic payroll deductions as well as using paid time off to volunteer to charities of their choice during work hours. In 2015, employees gave more than 900 hours in volunteer time to charities through AFCU’s charity of choice and community involvement paid hours. They also donated more than $11,500 to corporate-sponsored charities in 2015.

AFCU is the largest financial cooperative and tenth largest financial institution in Arkansas with more than $1 billion in total assets, more than 95,000 members and more than 270 employees. AFCU has 14 service centers throughout Arkansas and more than 5,000 service centers in all 50 states and eight foreign countries through a partnership with Credit Union Service Centers.

Neat Thing We Do
The most popular employee event every year is the Christmas party. AFCU provides food and entertainment along with prizes and recognition. With ever-changing venues, themes and entertainment, AFCU recognizes outstanding work by employees, presents a slideshow from the year showcasing fun employee activities and sets up photo booths and a professional photographer to capture the festivities.

Employees say they feel empowered to make decisions on their own that will best serve and benefit members, which sets AFCU apart from its peers. AFCU employees aren’t simply order-takers. Sure, employees handle transactions swiftly and accurately, but they are trained to engage in conversations that will allow members to receive the best recommendations for their financial well-being.

AFCU believes strongly in promoting from within. As a result, there are employees in executive management who have worked their way up from teller to leading the organization.
