Arkansas Tech Sells Eclipse Viewing Spots to Benefit Student Groups

1 min read

Arkansas Tech University is offering to rent space on its Russellville campus to eclipse viewers in April, with proceeds benefiting student organizations.

Packages range from a $75 day pass at the Tucker Coliseum parking lot to a $2,500 three-night pass for RV parking on the campus’ east side.

Members of ATU student organizations will staff the reserved campus spaces to ensure the comfort and safety of guests, the university said in a news release. The students will receive community emergency response team training and will be supported by ATU Department of Public Safety officers.

Classes and operations will move to virtual beginning at noon on Friday, April 5. Virtual classes and operations will continue on the day of eclipse, Monday, April 8, and on Tuesday, April 9.

“We look forward to hosting a fun and safe celebration of the total solar eclipse at Arkansas Tech,” said Susan West, ATU associate professor of hospitality administration and chair of the ATU eclipse committee. “We are focusing on providing a great experience to our guests and students, maintaining a safe environment and protecting ATU property so we can return to normal operations once the eclipse is complete and our guests return home.”

A historic influx of visitors is expected in Arkansas for the eclipse, which will cast a huge ribbon of darkness across much of the state. Russellville will be in the zone of totality, along with Little Rock and tourism towns like Hot Springs, Heber Springs and Mountain View.
