Arkansas’ unemployment rate in March was 3.7%, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.
But the U.S. jobless didn’t budge from 3.8% between February and March, according to a report released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Services.
“With the addition of 2,079 more employed Arkansans in March, employment in the State has increased for three consecutive months. The number of employed is up 8,585 compared to March 2018,” BLS Program Operations Manager Susan Price said in a news release.
Compared to March 2018, Arkansas’ nonfarm payroll employment is up by 9,900. Growth came in eight major industry sectors, while three sectors saw losses.
- Jobs in manufacturing increased by 3,300, with most of the gains being in durable goods.
- Employment in leisure and hospitality rose by 2,500, with all the gains being in accommodation and food services.
- Educational and health services gained 1,800 jobs, all in health care and social assistance.
- Trade, transportation and utilities added 1,300 jobs, in whole trade and transportation-warehousing-utilities.
- Professional and business services lost 1,100 jobs, all in administrative and support services.
- The government and construction sectors added 800 jobs apiece.
- Financial activities added 500 jobs.
- Other services gained 300 jobs.
- Mining and logging lost 200 jobs.
- Employment in information dropped by 100.
