Atlas Tube to Hire 100 in Blytheville

1 min read

Atlas Tube Inc., which makes hollow structural sections, on Friday announced plans to build a $55 million manufacturing plant in Blytheville and employ 100 workers.

The Plymouth, Mich., company will build a 450,000-SF facility to make tubing. The company said construction will begin immediately, with production beginning in the third quarter of 2006.

The jobs are expected to pay between $40,000 and $60,000 annually.

“We’re very excited about being in Blytheville and building a world-class facility next to Nucor Steel,” said Barry Zekelman, CEO of Atlas Tubes, in a news release. “Local and state authorities made it an easy decision to locate in Arkansas.”

Mississippi County also has agreed to spend $875,000 to prepare the site for the new plant.

The money will come from the 0.5 percent sales tax voters approved in 2003 to raise money for economic development.

“Funds from our economic development tax were invested in this project, which will benefit every citizen in Mississippi County and improve our overall quality of life,” said Mississippi county Judge Steve McGuire in a news release.

Arkansasbusiness.com reported Thursday that a plant would locate in the northeast Arkansas city and employ 100. At the time, no would release the company’s name or other details.
