United Federal Credit Union is so invested in having healthy employees, it will reimburse employees up to $750 towards the cost of gym memberships, weight loss programs and fitness equipment at home.

Those healthy living reimbursements are in addition to an online wellness portal where employees can earn points toward payroll credits to offset health insurance. Staff can also participate in Biggest Loser-style weight loss challenges that are incentivized by prizes.

Hard work is also incentivized.

Employees — with the exception of those on commission — can earn annual bonuses up to 10 percent of their base salary for the prior year. Payouts have ranged between 8-10 percent in the past seven years.

Managers are provided $100 per employee within their department for employee recognition.

Full-time staff can be paid for up to 8 hours of volunteer time. Part-time employees can earn money for four hours of community service work. Community service initiatives include the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club and the Children’s Emergency Shelter.

Nearly 60 employees were added over the last year and the company, which offers assistance for counseling and help with addiction issues. On-site personal development and and stress management opportunities are also available.
