Billye Hawkins Veteto, Razorback Foundation (Nonprofit Organization CFO Finalist)

2 min read

Billye Veteto has certainly found balance in her life.

Veteto, 38, celebrated her fourth anniversary as CFO at the Razorback Foundation in October. Her four-year anniversary with her husband, Jeremy, is in a couple of months.

None of this balance was particularly by design, Veteto said.

“Maybe this is unique for someone who is in the position I’m in, but I’m not one of those who had it completely mapped out,” Veteto said. “As in, ‘This is exactly what I’m going to do by this age and this is exactly what I’m going to do by that age.’ When I started school, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. I thought I might want to go to law school, but I wanted a good business background. Anywhere, anything if you look at it, it’s a business.”

Veteto chose accounting, correctly as it turned out, and it has opened up great things for her. After serving in a series of accounting positions, she joined the Razorback Foundation in October 2011, and the position of CFO allows her to be both personable and nerdy.

The Razorback Foundation is the fundraising arm of the University of Arkansas Athletic Department. Veteto makes sure the books are balanced but also gets to chat up foundation members — read, “donors” — and interact with some of her sports and business heroes.

“I would get extremely bored if I was the typical CFO behind the desk looking at numbers all day long,” Veteto said. “This has truly been a blessing.”

And, like a woman without a plan, she has no next step in mind.

“I have a great job and I love it,” Veteto said. “What is the next adventure? I don’t know. I would love to say it’s moving to Breckenridge, Colorado, and opening up a coffee shop, but that doesn’t make any money.”
