Brad Phelps Hired as Arkansas State Associate General Counsel

1 min read

Brad Phelps, Arkansas’ chief deputy attorney general, has been hired by Arkansas State University as associate general counsel.

Phelps, who has been with the Arkansas Attorney General’s office since 2003 and been Attorney General Dustin McDaniel’s chief deputy since 2010, will assume his duties at A-State on Nov. 3. Phelps will work from the A-State System Office in Little Rock.

“We had a strong group of quality candidates, and Brad brings an ideal mix of experience both as a very bright attorney and as a proven leader in the attorney general’s office,” System President Charles Welch said in a news release. “He has a deep knowledge of state operations and public policy, having worked on a variety of legislative and litigation issues.”

Phelps will join General Counsel Lucinda McDaniel and Associated General Counsel Katherine Prescott.

“As a native of Jonesboro, I’m a longtime supporter of Arkansas State,” Phelps said in the release. “I look forward to this next chapter in my legal career and working with Dr. Welch and the rest of the system team to assist the campuses in fulfilling their missions.”

Phelps graduated from Hendrix College in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in history, and from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law in 2001.
