AngelEye Health connects parents and their babies in neonatal intensive care units with a virtual visitation experience through secured webcam technology. As long as the parents have access to the internet, they will have access to their children no matter where they are.

The idea for AngelEye Health, launched in 2013, was formed in 2006 and stemmed from Dr. Curtis Lowery’s interest in telemedicine. Lowery was the chairman of the College of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and wanted to find a way to connect parents to their babies during the sometimes months-long NICU stays.

In 2022, Inc. magazine put AngelEye Health on its Inc. 5,000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies. Proving worthy of its place on the list, AngelEye is on track to deliver nearly 10 million virtual visits between parents and their babies this year.

“We just found a clear need in the market for families to be connected to their neonates when they were [at the hospital] for weeks or months at a time,” said CEO Christopher Rand.

In the past three years, AngelEye has seen average annual revenue growth of 66%, with sales of less than $500,000 in its first year rising to $5 million to $10 million in 2022.

“There’s just a lot of patience required, a lot of trying to identify who in the market would be an early adopter and be [willing to] take a leap of faith on the technology,” Rand said.

Outside of the first five cameras used at UAMS, Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was the first hospital to purchase AngelEye’s camera system, starting with nine bedside cameras. The hospital now has an AngelEye camera for each of its 44 NICU beds.

“Historically, in the NICU, it’s really the clinicians … taking care of the patient, and most physicians or nurses you talk to would like to figure out ways to get the family more engaged in [NICU care] because they’re a critical part of that, especially the moms,” Rand said.

AngelEye Health plans to continue in its innovative spirit, fine-tuning its MilkTracker program for new moms and creating new programs to implement.
