After finding help to manage the business records created by his four self-storage and U-Haul businesses, David Reagler saw the value of what he had done and launched a business to help other companies in the same situation.

“It’s a service industry and a challenge,” Reagler said, adding that almost every business needs help in records management. “My biggest challenge is making sure we price it so we make money but … also that the service we provide is a good value for everybody.”

Reagler said he first learned about records management while attending a trade show in Las Vegas. “I had never heard of the industry. As a business owner it makes all the sense in the world because … it’s a big pain, and whether the records are electronic or paper, it really doesn’t matter; you still have to manage them.”

Since opening in 2006, the company has grown steadily and now serves all sizes of clients, from restaurants and small shops to oil companies, law firms and hospitals, Reagler said. Revenues have risen 25 to 30 percent every year, with nearly $1 million in sales last year.

Originally, Arkansas Records Management stored records at Reagler’s Hot Springs Village storage facility, but the company soon ran out of room. The company then began working out of a 3,000-SF warehouse in Hot Springs and recently purchased a 22,000-SF facility next door. About $100,000 in shredding equipment has also been purchased and should be installed soon, Reagler said.

Reagler said he employs 12 people and hires temporary workers when large jobs are acquired.
