Boston Mountain Rural Health Center

2024 Arkansas Business of the Year // Category IV (151-499 Employees)

Marshall

Here’s what CEO Debbie Ackerson wants you to know about Boston Mountain Rural Health Center: “We take care of people and provide as many services as we can.”

BMRHC was founded 30 years ago in Marshall (Searcy County) and now operates 16 health centers throughout northwest and north-central Arkansas, from Huntsville to Mountain View and as far south as Conway. The clinics serve people with private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and even the uninsured, who receive discounts depending on income.

The nonprofit organization employs about 250, including more than 50 providers — physicians, nurse practitioners, a psychiatrist, therapists, dentist and dental hygienists and a part-time optometrist. Primary care is BMRHC’s central mission but its goal is to care for the entire person.

Ackerson, whose two stints with BMRHC total almost 20 years, has been CEO since 2017. She said BMRHC treated a record number of patients in 2023, a projected total of about 27,000.
