Michael and Kim Henderson felt called to leave retirement after seeing the effects of a lack of access to broadband and jobs in rural Arkansas. Their solution was to launch Cooperative Technology Solutions LLC, or C-Tech.
Founded in 2021, C-Tech started offering fiber training classes with just six employees. Four years later, the company now provides construction and consulting services such as financial feasibility and economic analysis to utilities that are deploying fiber and renewable services.
C-Tech employs 49 people working across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas, offering employee benefits rarely seen in utility construction. The company provides fully paid medical, vision and dental insurance, as well as a 401(k) matching retirement plan.
The Hendersons also chose to roll earnings back into the company to accelerate debt payments so C-Tech could be debt free by the end of 2025 and be able to provide benefits to its employees comparable to those offered by Fortune 500 companies.
