When it comes to calamity cleanups at apartments, homes and businesses, Metro Disaster Specialists has tallied more than 21,000 jobs over the years.

The North Little Rock firm offers structural repairs and content restoration services for residential and commercial properties damaged by fire, smoke, water and storms, along with mold remediation.

In Arkansas, the company has become the granddaddy of doing what it does while also plying its trade with a sprinkling of work in Tennessee and Mississippi.

“We’ve seen a lot of competing companies come and go,” said Sharon Parker, marketing director at Metro Disaster Specialists. The company celebrated its 40th year as a stand-alone corporation in 2019.

Founded by Reed McConnell, the company began as an in-house venture to support Apartment House Builders during the 1960s and expanded its services beyond AHB’s portfolio of rental properties in 1979.

In addition to reconstruction services to repair damaged structures, Metro Disaster Specialists restores furnishings at its 40,000-SF facility.

“We do it all, from high-end artwork and tapestries to electronics, books, documents and more,” said CEO Britt Stewart, who represents the third generation of leadership among the company’s investment group.

Technicians at Metro Disaster Specialists sport a variety of specialty skills accredited by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration Certification.

A staff of 34 includes a 24-hour emergency response team and a roster of certified specialists for upholstery and carpet cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning services, sewer remediation, mold remediation, restoration and deodorizing.

In 2019, the company was recognized as the restoration company of the year by the Arkansas Adjusters Association and Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas.
